England football fans at Wimbledon forced Novak Djokovic's game with Vit Kopriva to be paused briefly as they celebrated.

    A large cheer went up inside Centre Court as Trent Alexander-Arnold stroked home the winning spot kick to beat Switzerland 5-3 on penalties. Djokovic and Kopriva humoured the crowd and allowed the English fans a chance to revel in progressing to the semi-final before continuing their match.

    England have progressed to the semi-finals in a major tournament for the third time in four attempts under Gareth Southgate. It is also just the second time that England have won a game on penalties in the European Championship, having last beaten Spain in Euro 96. Djokovic and Kopriva can forgive the England fans in the crowd for celebrating.

    England will not have too long to celebrate their shootout victory over Switzerland and preparations will begin immediately for the semi-finals. Gareth Southgate will be paying close attention to the final quarter-final between Turkey and the Netherlands with England playing the winner on Wednesday.
